More Harry Potter!

We have another FO from the Harry Potter KAL. The background: All students at the Hogwart’s school have an owl that delivers mail from other witches and wizards. Harry Potter’s owl is called Hedwig. It’s also one of the featured designs in the Charmed Knits book.

Charmed Knits

Amanda, the youngest member of the group decided to make her Hedwig in Cascade Pastaza in 1 skein and scrap yarn. She did use two buttons for the eyes though. We love how it came out. The assembly instrucions were a bit tricky but Jocelyn persevered and won. Amanda calls her owl Ruby - we think she is magical!

Harry Potter Forever!!

My Harry Potter scarf is finally done. It really is a present for DH’s niece - who loves all things Harry Potter.

Gryffindor Scarf

This was a quick fun knit, 4 skeins of Cascade 220 - 2 red and 2 yellow, on circular knitting needles. It’s knit as a long tube which makes it just so much more luxurious. The design is from the Charmed Knits book that features Harry Potter designs a plenty.

This yarn for this scarf is a mere $26.40 - making it an ideal Holiday season gift.

Romantic hand knits has arrived

Annie Modesitt’s new book is here - it’s got some absolutely stunning patterns and some great details on how to fit the garment.

Romantic Hand Knits

Exquisite drape show off a woman’s curves in a most ladylike manner, creating flirtatious and flattering fits to please any knitter. Loosely based on ultra-feminine styles from fashion history, the designs in Romantic Hand Knits have an undeniably modern appeal. Some of the patterns include

• A lace camisole is lengthened and reinvented as a lovely summer slip dress
• A late-eighteenth-century corset cover inspires the design for a lacy fitted top with elbow-length sleeves
• Silk stockings favored by Elizabethan ladies of the royal court return in a sexy and fresh incarnation

With the new fibers available today, knitting guru Annie Modesitt knits up fabrics that cling delicately to a woman’s body, creating an elegant hand-tailored look. Now every woman will be able to create fitted garments that make her look as pretty, desirable, and sexy as she feels. Come and get your copy of the book.

Annie “The Knitting Heretic” Modesitt is Preaching at Nine Rubies Knitting!

We are delighted to announce that noted author and designer Annie Modesitt will be coming to Nine Rubies Knitting for two days of workshops and a book signing. Annie is well known in knitting circles for her original designs. Her Twisted Float Cocoon Shrug just was featured in Top 10 hits in Vogue Knitting in their Fall 2007 25-year Anniversary Issue. And her corset is a popular Artyarns pattern.

Annie may be even better known as “the knitting heretic” because she approaches knitting and purling in an unconventional way. The result is that the stitches are much more even and smooth looking. If you have faced the challenge of uneven gauge (commonly called “rowing out”), then Annie’s Combination Knitting workshop may be just the thing for you. Techniques learned will include casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off. Stitch patterns learned will include stockinette stitch, garter stitch and ribbing stitch. One of our customers has said that Annie’s way of knitting has changed her life. We’ll sure that you will agree!

The other workshop that Annie is teaching addresses the wonderful world of lace knitting. Annie will demystify the basic techniques, and you’ll learn the very valuable skill of learning to read lace charts. You will knit a few simple lace panels, and move onto a more challening lace pattern for those who feel ready for a challenge. This class could change you entire knitting outlook!

Romantic Hand KnitsSeveral of Annie’s books, including the soon-to-be-released Romantic Hand Knits, will be available for purchase in the coming weeks. We hope that you will join us for the book signing even if you can’t attend the workshops.
